Children in Need

We had a dress-up or dress-down day for Children in Need, we saw a lot of onesies! We raised £84.12 which we’re quite proud of. Thank you to Jessie Lumsden, Muirren MacDonald, Phoebe Lloyd and Phoebe Drummond from the academy for painting faces so well.

Little engineers

P1/2 had a go at making working turntables to allow cars and boats to pass over/through their “canals”.

What did they do?

Using models and toys as inspiration, the children tried to think of ways to open and close a canal bridge and allow traffic through…they created a turntable using a combination of k-nex cogs and spindles (and with some extra kit from Mr. McConville) and cardboard.

What happened?

They found that the turntable was very hard to turn and thought about how to make it easier – some of them thought that placing the turntable on rollers might help. That was still tricky, but they did manage to turn the table themselves with the first cog, then they took the truck across the top and the boat underneath.

Here are some of our pictures…

Halloween Party

The Parent Council Fund Raising committee held a Halloween party in the school hall on Thursday 29th October. The children had a fantastic time and we are hugely grateful to Moira and her team for the effort they put in.

Cross Country

Mrs Masson and Mrs Bremner took some of the older pupils to a cross-country event at Bught Park, Inverness. In the boys’ team we had Hugo, Kai, Colla, Sam and Toni. In the girls’ team we had Isla McArthur, Loulou, Grace, Maddie, Lisa and Caitlyn.

The teams did very well, we were especially proud of Hugo who came 61st out of 193, an excellent result for a small school like ours. Isla also did very well, coming 92nd out of 187.

Mrs Masson hopes to introduce more regular running sessions.

Additional Support for Learning

We have a duty to ensure that information regarding Additional Support for Learning is made available to parents, professionals and young people.

To this end the ASL Information sheets, produced by the Highland Council’s Additional Support Service, along with CHIP+ have been updated. The 2015 copy is available on display in the primary school office. Please find the link to this information below.

Nursery

The nursery really enjoyed a visit from Jasmine today, she read them a story about Peppa PIg and another one all about school. The nursery pupils were delighted and Jasmine was very skillful at holding their attention.

Drama

The whole school has been getting Drama lessons from Amanda Luscombe from Eden Court. We get lessons for five weeks a term. At the moment the school is split into two groups to fit in with swimming lessons but, after the October holidays, we will have time for three lessons, so, one per class.

P4-7 has been learning about MacBeth which is very exciting and quite gruesome.  P1-3 is learning how to use voice and action to retell the Roald Dahl version of Little Red Riding Hood.
